I normally play this a half step down to better fit my voice, but it still plays fine in standard. [Intro] (The intro is totally optional, this is not how it's played on the recording, it's similar, but much easier. Just a simple alternating E to E7 at the beginning and through the first lines of verse 1&2. Just E by itself works, this just adds a little flair and brings it closer to the recording) e|----0-----0------------------| B|----0-----0------------------| G|----0-----0------------------| x3 (the 4th time through, the verse starts, so you can keep playing this or D|-1-----1-----1--1-1-1-1-1-1--| just stick with E) A|-2-----2-----2--0-2-0-2-0-2--| E|-2-----2-----2--2-2-2-2-2-2--| D--D--D--D--D--D-U-D-U-D-U [Verse 1] (play first verse lightly) E (intro riff) There's a place in a piney hollow E (intro riff) That no one but me can find E (intro riff) Some Choctaw built it in the hillside G A E (loud from here on) Stone by stone in a simpler time (E or intro riff) G A [Verse 2] E E7 E It's a holy place, my daddy showed me E (intro riff) Back before this land was mine A G E On the blue side of the mountain G A E Where the sun don't ever shine [Chorus] A G A E So deep and dark like a hurtin' down in my heart E A G Maybe somethin' there will show me some kind of sign A G E On the blue side of the mountain G A E Where the sun don't ever shine [Insturmental] (same as the verse) E -full 4 count E -full 4 count A G E G A E [Verse 3] (light strumming) E E7 E (into riff) I'm going back to a world of shadow E E7 E (heavy downstrums) Gotta find some peace, for I lose my mind A G E On the blue side of the mountain G A E Where the sun don't ever shine [Ending] A G A E So deep and dark like a hurtin' down in my heart E A G Maybe somethin' there will show me some kind of sign A G E On the blue side of the mountain G A E Where the sun don't ever shine G A E Where the sun don't ever shine
