      Take a Cutting
by Norma O'Hara Murphy

This is in the Key of A, however I prefer it using G Chords with a capo for key shifting purposes.
Feel free to transpose using the site to change to open A chords.

All the verses are played using a single slow strum per chord, the chorus' are a DD UDU strum pattern (Roughly).

Capo on the 2nd Fret
Intro: G (With Harmonica)

                           C
We’re at Flemington for the Melbourne Cup
        D G
And the race is well in hand
     G C
When all of a sudden a cheer goes up
        D G
From the members in the stand
  G C
I strain to get a better look
   D G
To see what is the cause
     G C
But Auntie’s seen the roses (Gasp)
         D G
And she’s got the secateurs

Chorus:
         C G
To take a cutting, take a cutting
                                       D
Oh that looks really nice let’s get a cutting
   C G
It just might grow, you never know
     D G
I’ll take a little cutting

          G C
Now we’ve often tried to tell her
        D G
That it really isn’t right
G C
Sneaking into gardens
       D G
in the middle of the night
G C
But she just says, ‘Don’t worry,
    D G
It’s really not that bad.
G C D G
I always keep my secateurs hidden in my bag.’

Repeat Chorus:
         C G
To take a cutting, take a cutting
                                       D
Oh that looks really nice let’s get a cutting
   C G
It just might grow, you never know
     D G
I’ll take a little cutting

             G C
Now we’re on holidays in the national park
      D G
We’re packing up to leave
         G C
When the ranger comes a running
         D G
And he’s looking pretty peeved
        G C
You must come and get your auntie
D G
Before I call the law
            G C
Cause she’s out among the tree ferns
D G
With a bloody great chainsaw

Repeat Chorus:
         C G
To take a cutting, take a cutting
                                       D
Oh that looks really nice let’s get a cutting
   C G
It just might grow, you never know
     D G
I’ll take a little cutting

         C G
We’ll take a cutting, take a cutting
                                       D
Oh that looks really nice let’s get a cutting
   C G
It just might grow, you never know
     D G
I’ll take a little cutting

   C G
It just might grow, you never know
     D G
I’ll take a little cutting

Outro: C D G
