Live at least, Lucy plays this in D tuning and just plays these shapes higher up the neck.

Dynamics and voicings are important for this track, as the song builds and gathers emotion, add in bass notes,
hammer ons / pull offs (from Dmaj to D for instance) to enhance the effect.
This is also essentially a two part song, after the last [Chorus] we switch from the key of D to A.
Power chords and barre chords work well here, as it is heavier and more intense than the first section.

In the [Refrain], use barre chords and slide up from E when you switch to A at the 5th fret:
