Yeah I thought I knew it all

Till Dad put me on the other end

Of a cross-cut saw

Now you pull, you dont push,

You pull it away from me

I pull it back, away from you

Down on your knees,
                            A
Cut that stump close to the ground
Short small strokes at first

Let the steel teeth make their sound

Zing zing the saw cuts the cold winter air
                           A
Breathe out white puffs of steam
Dont work against one another
                   D
Work together as a team

Sawdust flakes drop in the snow
                      A
Yellow gold covers my knees
The tall tree groans, and leans

Toward the undercut we made with ease

The cut opens up wide
                      A
We pull the saw back, away
The tall top quivers in the breeze
                                 D
Leans over and thumps the ground away

I look at Dad
                 A
He looks back at me
Tight smiles, we both had
                       D
Lets cross-cut another tree

Firewood, white oak, winter time..cross-cut saw.
