Original author: AmyRayFan 103 (Ultimate Guitar version 2)
Modifications: Wheezy E
To follow the recording: Standard tuning / Capo 2
Easier for guys to sing: Tune a whole step down [DGCFAd] / No capo

This version is very similar to versions 1, 2, and 3, but I wanted to format this tab for ease of playability
since the song is so fast and has such an interesting meter. Most chords are "pinky top-string bar" versions
of major chords. However, I find it easiest to not pinky-bar anything (just put two separate fingers on each
fret 3 string) in order to allow quicker switching of the different D chords. Also note the similarity of
D11 and C (you can slide the same shape up and down the neck). Side-note: There's a mandolin and
penny-whistle hiding in there too.

[Verse 1]
    G A7sus4 Cadd9 Dsus D Dsus2 D
I'm trying to tell you something about my life
    G A7sus4 Cadd9 Dsus D Dsus2 D
Maybe give me insight between black and white
        D11 C (G)
The best thing you've ever done for me
          D11 C
Is to help me take my life less seriously
         C G A7sus4 Cadd9 Dsus D Dsus2 D
    it's only life after all

[Verse 2]
         G A7sus4 Cadd9 Dsus D Dsus2 D
Well darkness has a hunger that's insatiable
        G A7sus4 Cadd9 Dsus D Dsus2 D
And lightness has a call that's hard to hear
      D11 Cmaj
I wrapped my fear around me like a blanket
      D11 Cmaj
I sailed my ship of safety till I sank it
        C G C G
    I'm crawling on your shore.

[Chorus]
          D Cadd9 G
I went to the doctor, I went to the mountains
          D Cadd9 G
I looked to the children, I drank from the fountain
                D11 C
There's more than one answer to these questions
        C G C G
        pointing me in crooked line
                D11 C
And the less I seek my source for some'm definitive
         C G A7sus9 Cadd9 Dsus D Dsus2 D
Closer I am to fine. ...Closer
               G A7sus9 Cadd9 Dsus D Dsus2 D
             I am to fine.

[Verse 3]
      G A7 C Dsus D Dsus2 D
I went to see the doctor of philosophy
           G A7 C Dsus D Dsus2 D
With a poster of Rasputin and a beard down to his knee
       D11 C
He never did marry or see a B-grade movie
       D11 C
He graded my performance, he said he could see through me

I went to the doctor, I went to the mountains
          D Cadd9 G
I looked to the children, I drank from the fountain
                D11 C
There's more than one answer to these questions
        C G C G
        pointing me in crooked line

Closer I am to fine. ...Closer
               G A7sus9 Cadd9 Dsus D Dsus2 D
             I am to fine.

[Verse 4]
      G A7 C Dsus D Dsus2 D
I stopped by the bar at 3 a.m.
            G A7 C Dsus D Dsus2 D
To seek solace in a bottle or possibly a friend
       D11 C
I woke up with a headache, like my head against a board
    D11 C
Twice as cloudy, as I'd been the night before
      Cadd9 G C G
    I went in seeking clarity.

[Final Chorus]
          D Cadd9 G
I went to the doctor, I went to the mountains
          D Cadd9 G
I looked to the children, I drank from the fountain
           D Cadd9 G
We go to the doctor, we go to the mountains
           D Cadd9 G
We look to the children, we drink from the fountain
           D Cadd9 G
We go to the Bible, we go through the workout
           D Cadd9 x G
We read up on revival, and we stand up for the lookout
                D11 C
There's more than one answer to these questions
        C G C G
pointing me in a crooked line
                D11 C
And the less I seek my source for some'm definitive
                 G A7sus9 Cadd9 Dsus
        Closer I am to fine
                 G A7sus9 Cadd9 Dsus
        Closer I am to fine
                 G A7sus9 Cadd9 Dsus D Dsus2 D
        Closer I am to fine
          G
