This is the original album version with 3 verses,
the single version misses out Verse 2 and a chorus.

The C bass notes in the intro and choruses is a
distinctive part of the arrangement, but you could
play standard major chords on guitar, as I think Jeff
Lynne does, particularly if you have additional bass or
keyboard accompaniment that could play that bass note.
The Cadd9 I felt was a subtler option reflecting the
keyboards, but again you could play a standard C major.
